‘Sexual Nature’ is the latest exhibition organized by London’s Natural History Museum, and provides funny and fascinating facts about all things sexual in the animal kingdom.

For example, there you can find out that male spiders produce small webs to collect their sperm, inject it into the female’s pedipalps and retreat before she tries to eat them.

I guess you didn’t know that.

And what about this? Barnacle’s penis can be 30 times its body length, snakes are doubly endowed and roman snails enjoy S&M foreplay. Fascinating facts about the sex lives of animals.

The Sexual Nature exhibition which will run until 2 October offers more surprising exploration of the bizarre world of animal sex.

Aimed at adults and children aged over 16, the exhibition contains ‘frank information and imagery about sex’, including wildlife videos from the BBC and specially commissioned exhibits.

“At the heart of the exhibition are real specimens from the Museum’s vast scientific collections, many of which are on display for the first time,” said Tate Greenhalgh, Interpretation Developer.

“The huge variety of specimens show the diversity of wonderful adaptations animals have evolved to get ahead in the mating game such as snail love darts and the detachable penis of the paper nautilus.”
